In 1842, Robert Macleod and his family are forced to emigrate from Scotland to the Colony of New South Wales, where they settle in the Goulburn district on the Southern Highlands. This is the story of their first ten years in this wild and mysterious new land, as seen through the eyes of their young son, Will Macleod. Set in the dangerous and lawless period of the Australian gold rush, the family fights to survive bushfires, bushrangers, floods and devastating family misfortune. |

It is time of great hardship for the Macleods, and young Will is forced to assume responsibilities, way beyond the expectations of a boy his age. The Young Highlander is a story of love, courage and friendships, and whilst it is fiction, it is based on historical facts. For more information or to order The Young Highlander click here
