Interview with
Lance Wilson

Tell us about you, the author.

Retired and living on a small farm in Tasmania.

And a little about each of your books and the inspiration behind the stories you write?

Inspiration from both books came from  stories and people I met in The Kimberley's, although other novels I have to publish are a wider story line.

You write about the Kimberley’s and more, and yet you live in Tasmania; how has this come about?

Yep, lived and worked a lot in the Kimberley's, but retired to Tasmania, the wet seasons became a little overbearing with age.

We could just guess at the answer, but what’s the real driving force behind ‘Dare to Live the Dream’ or is this title just a cliché?

No actually not, although fiction it contains a bit of fact.

Tell us where we can go to buy your books.

All Australian and New Zealand book shops, distributed by Australian Book Group, Drouin,Victoria. They have excellent salespeople selling to all book outlets in Australia and New Zealand.

When did your passion for writing begin?

I suppose like us all it has always been an ambition but it was only in later life I had the spare time and opportunity.

Do you write full time and can you tell us what your typical “writing” day is like?

As a writer I am lazy, I tend to go in fits and starts. Write like crazy for a couple of days then have a break for up to a week or so.

Who are your favourite authors and why do they inspire you?

I suppose one author always inspired me, her attention to detail and knowledge of the area she bases her novels makes her my favourite. I have read all Di Morresey's books, but my all time favourite “Tears of the Moon”.

What future projects do you have in the works?

Perhaps to publish a couple more works but mainly to help other authors get published.  On can just imagine the great works out there  that never have the chance to reach the public, we seem to publish heaps of Biographies on sports stars, Politicians, celebrities etc. but so much good fiction remains unpublished. The escapism market in China especially is huge, perhaps none more so than adult fiction.

Who is your publisher and how has your experience with them been?

 Kimberley Cottage Press. Excellent.

Can you tell us ways you are promoting your book?  Have they been successful or is it too soon to tell?

Overseas we gave away trips to Australia through www.Travelroundoz.com  to all the places mentioned in my novels. Successful indeed, outstanding.

Can you give aspiring authors words of advice towards getting published?

Yes persevere, never give up. Many a fine manuscript never sees the light of day, because publishers receive hundreds each year often they are rejected without being read. Think outside the square. My two novels are being released in Australia at a Rodeo, concert etc. with five thousand expected. Proceeds to go to Aussie Helpers, an organization that assists rural families in crisis.  We got great publicity on all the radio and TV stations’

Don’t ever give up, and never equate delay with defeat.

What is one thing about your life that you think is important, but nobody ever asks?

Got me there? Nothing really. I lead a busy and happy life, and feel truly blessed Most important always is family.

In case we missed it, tell us again where we can go to buy your books.

All good bookstores in Australia, New Zealand, Germany, China, and the UK.

Thank you very much for your time and good luck with your future endeavours!
