Coming Home – By Vonnie Hughes

Coming Home is a delightful romance story set in the early nineteenth century. Brigade Major Colly Hetherington and Nurse Juliana Colebrook are caught up in the heat of war. Yet the destruction that surrounds them cannot dim the ardor between them.

Returning to England on the ship Maximus, they pose as man and wife. This leaves Major Hetherington in quite a dithering state. His hormones demand instant satisfaction but years of upbringing as an English gentleman hold him back. Juliana wishes that he would forget his social graces and let his true emotions take hold.

Throughout the novel there is a wonderful sense of fun combined with a literal teasing as the couple wax and wane between flirtation and full commitment. Vonnie Hughes has penned a romantic historical novel that devotees of this genre will love. I found the book to be a relaxing read and a good form of escapism.
