Adrian Templeton was having
a hard time of coming to grips with what
life had dealt him. Physically scarred by a
tragic accident that took the life of his
girlfriend Jackie, he had emotional scars
that would not heal. The effect of this on
his life was enormous, costing him his
career and self respect.
Life was just one dreary day
after another, which Adrian shared with his
mother. At 26 years old he wished he could
get away from the babying his mother poured
on him. Since his accident she dominated
his life and treated him like a child that
could not fend for itself.
There was one bright side to
Adrian’s life that came out of the blue one
rainy Sydney day. It was the day he met
Ellen Gerber at the bus stop on his way to
work. He did not have an umbrella to
protect him from the rain, and she offered
to shelter him with hers. This chance
meeting would throw Adrian’s world into a
roller coaster of emotions that would not
stop until he resolved just what his heart
desired.
Along this tumultuous
journey he would discover things about his
mother and his past that would totally shock
him. It would begin a process of soul
searching that would lead him to God.
Adrian was not a very religious man but he
needed a rock on which to cast his anchor to
stop him drifting onto the rocks of
anarchy.
Ellen Gerber also found her
life a dreary drudge until she met Adrian,
then her world turned upside down. As a
woman who was 14 years older than Adrian,
she had to contend with the prejudices of
her own daughter and the world around her,
in relation to Adrian. These archaic views
would lead her down paths of torment she did
not know existed and turn friends from her.
“Scars of The Heart”, is a
book with a good storyline, with the
exception of one small part when Adrian went
on the run from Ellen. The logic of this
section did not fit in with the flow of the
writing. All of the secondary characters in
the book compliment the story, and make the
book richer for their presence.
