Starting Over is a light romance tale about
two women, Maria and Eva. They are women from different periods
of time from the late nineteenth to the late twentieth century.
The book tells of their life long quest to find happiness, a
quest which takes them down similar paths. Both women find that
the world is not a bed of roses and that it can take many
unexpected turns for better or worse.
Spanning the continents of Europe and North America the plot
behind the stories of Maria and Eva will be familiar to readers
of this genre. It follows the formula of the heroines needing
to make heart wrenching decisions about the priority of their
emotional needs and those of the people the love. These moments
of truth for the two women have a dramatic effect on how they
conduct the course of their lives.
What I found disappointing about the book was its execution.
The idea of having a dual story set in different time frames,
looking at the problems women face in seeking out happiness was
good. But the writing style for me did not carry off the
writer’s intent.
I could only give the book a one ink well rating.
