Have you booked a Featured Author or Spotlight? Maybe you're considering doing so. We have so many enquiries about the information we need, that we decided to make a page solely to cover this. The process is very simple, once you know what we need. We want to make it as painless as possible for all concerned. Please click on the appropriate link below for the appropriate information (or scroll down to read it all):
Featured Author & Global Spotlight The very first thing you should do is take a look at past Featured Authors & Global Spotlights. You'll find them on our archives page. We are very generous with these pages, and allow you to add pretty much anything you want - within reason. The Featured Author & Global Spotlight pages are the most popular pages on the entire site, and this is your big chance to showcase yourself. Here's what we generally include:
Everything listed above is optional. We won't include anything you don't want included. This is YOUR page, not ours, so do with it what you will. **You are very welcome to write your intro paragraph (or two) for the newsletter provided it's not over-hyped. If you want to take up this option, please let Cheryl know you will be doing so.
Please read Things You Should Know (below)
Spotlights are similar to Featured Author slots except they are much shorter. Our Spotlight page is the second most popular page on the entire website. Here's what we need for your Spotlight:
**You are very welcome to write your intro paragraph (or two) for the newsletter provided it's not over-hyped. If you want to take up this option, please let Cheryl know you will be doing so.
Please read Things You Should Know (below)
We suggest you send an email checking out the date you want before sending your payment. All our slots fill up very quickly, and we'd hate for you to be disappointed. Alternatively, send your payment noting the date you want, and we'll add you immediately if it's available. Otherwise we'll contact you to advise alternative dates. Sometimes we're booked out six months ahead. (For instance, the January 2008 slot was booked in June 2007.) Other times we might have a month or two that is free and readily available. It usually comes down to author's release dates. You should send all the required information to us around the 24th-27th of the appropriate month. This should be sent to our web mistress Cheryl Wright. Her email address is: write_cheryl@optusnet.com.au She will always acknowledge receipt of your information, so if that doesn't happen, please follow up. Your page will go on the site the first day of the appropriate month. If there is anything you are not happy with, or need changed, send an email to Cheryl and she'll adjust the page. We are happy to include erotica, and often do, but pornographic material will not be included under any circumstances. Excluding the latter, all and any genres or forms of books are accepted. Now that you know what we will do, here's what we won't do:
It is your obligation to provide us with all the information, links, artwork, etc. It is our job to put the page together and organise the promotions.

Tips for Your Author or Spotlight Page We receive a lot of information from authors that is incredibly unprofessional. This is never a good look for authors trying to sell their books, so I've put together a few tips to try and help you get it right. No one teaches us how to promote ourselves, and unless someone has shown you the right way, it can be difficult and overwhelming. Below are a few tips that I see over and over again. I'll add more as they come to mind.
DON'T USE ALL CAPITALS: This is effectively shouting at the reader, and is not at all nice. It comes across very negatively and will put readers off.
Spell Check Your Work: I literally copy and paste, so if your spelling is wrong, your page will be wrong.
Grammar and Punctuation: Ditto what I said above. Also keep in mind that your feature or spotlight is your sales page - it sells you as a writer. If it's poorly presented, people will automatically believe your book is badly written. Don't let that happen to you.
Keep it Professional: Make sure everything you include relates to your book or related background. Don't go into a lot of personal information - that's never a good idea on the internet. Sure, you can say you are married with six kids. No problem. But don't say where you live except for somewhere broad, like Melbourne. Also be careful adding your email address as this makes it easy for spammers to bombard your inbox.
Your Book's Name: A lot of authors send in their information with their book name in capitals. This is totally incorrect. The correct and accepted way is to use capitals on each word, as well as italics. Like this: Saving Emma Or The Low Down on Niches
Provide Direct Links to Your Book: Readers don't like scrounging around to find your book. They will give up quickly if they're not taken straight to the sales page. And just like that, you lost a sale. Give them a direct link to buy your book and you have more chance of a sale.
Contests: You are always welcome to run a competition/contest in conjunction with your featured or spotlight page, or separately. We will advertise it for you at no charge, but will not get involved in the running of it.
